Precise’s manufacturing areas have been divided into eleven different zones. A comprehensive 5s Visual Factory implementation effort is being carried out in a phased approach across each of the different areas. Armed with an assortment of tape, brooms, mops and other tools of the trade, Precise employees are involved in an extensive organization and clean-up process designed to eliminate waste and clutter.
Precise’s Lean Manufacturing Champion, Jack Nichols, is leading each area workshop that includes a combination of training and hands-on application of the 5s philosophy.
The goal of this effort is not just to clean-up the workplace, but to get all areas 5s clean—meaning that a systematic process is put in place to Sustain or maintain all work areas. 5s workshops are occurring weekly through December 15, 2008.
On June 6th, Precise completed its annual AS9100 audit. The audit consisted of an intensive four-day examination of Precise’s Quality/Business System. David Dinwiddie, Lead Auditor, from Det Norske Veritas, was supported by the Precise team led by Jerry Colombo, Jeremy Miller and Lynette Greer.
On April 14th, Jerry Colombo will become the new Quality Manager at Precise. Jerry comes to Precise from Spirit AeroSystems. With 25 years of progressive experience in Quality Management and Quality Systems in the aerospace industry, Jerry will bring strong leadership.
